My handbrake and brake system light has started to flicker. The handbook says to see professional advice so I’m asking you lot J The light comes on with the ignition but not when the handbrake is on. I can’t say I’ve noticed if it ever did since I’ve had the TD5 90 which is 12 months. Since the weather has turned cold the warning light can flicker on at slow speeds but not when driving at normal road use speed. Has anyone had this happen to them and know the cause or where do I start to trace the fault myself.

Don't know if it helps but mine comes on if I go over a bumpy surface!! I think the switch seems to be activated as soon as the handbrake lever moves from fully "off". I just push the handbrake fully down again and it goes off. Might not be your problem but easy to check.

Is it a fluid level check on a Defender?

Fluid level is good. Could it be a bad earth or loose sensor somewhere?

The brake warning light should come on with the ignition to check it lights up (then go off on its own after a few seconds.).

If it is not coming on with the handbrake pulled up, then seems the switch under the handbrake gaiter is US or not earthed?

Flickering on at low speeds (I assume with the handbrake fully down) seems likely to be master cylinder level, as the handbrake switch is US .... see above.

Until you've fixed it coming on with the handbrake pulled up, there seems a limit to what you can rule out with the flickering, now you've checked the reservoir is fully topped up....

Good luck, A

It does come on with the ignition do I'll check for the switch under the horror and replace.

Cheers.

Don't know how but I think a loose dab aerial connection was interfering. Not coming on at the moment.
