Handbrake release button

Hi,

A friend of mine snapped the handbrake release button off of his series Land Rover and has asked me to turn a new one on my lathe, The problem is as the thread has snapped off inside I cant get a thread gauge in to find out the thread!

So can anybody tell me what thread it is please?

its likely 1/4 bsf,though i cant remember the rod thickness could be 5/16
if the lock nut looks like a 7/16 spanner size its 1/4 if it looks 13mm its 5/16
