Hi - New Member looking for some advice. My 90 1988 Petrol seems to lose power when accelerating in 3rd 4th then 5th maxing at 45 mph, can anybody relate or offer advice on what I can do to help improve its performance please?

Yep - already see that it seems to be bit of a club, happy to take crap from a few sad loney hearts - but general help / advice is great - but I'm sure you'll get the "nothin in life is free" crap from nurse evil!

Read the rules, introduce yourself and then post in the correct section. Don't? you will get abuse and rightly so. (Another lonely heart!)

yeh but don't give the right to hi-jack someone else's thread. ignorance is no excuse, read rules.

Back to original topic, sounds quiet bad, there shoudn't be any sensors on a 200tdi should there?

unless your handbrake cables got wrapped round part or the chassis or a bit of debris stick in the chassis? so when body rolls in corners, tugs on handbrake cable?

Don't hold onto the hand brake when going round corners too quickly???

But seriously... could be a slightly loose connection on the switch?

Could be one of the wires has 'rubbed' thru the insulation and is shorting to the bodywork or summat in the tunnel.

My handbrake lever 'stop' (bit of plate welded on the top of the lever) had snapped on one side and bent, caused the lever to knock the switch into a different position which gave similar problems. I just bent it back and added a spot or three of weld to fix it. Easiest way to do it was to remove handbrake lever ... however, I dunno if the 200 handrake lever is the same as my 300 variant.

Depends if your 300tDi is attached to a R380 box as I think the cable connections are different.

RHD handbrake lever ANR3692 is for the 300 I think, James will confirm or otherwise.

It does have the R380 ..

If the handbrake light comes on when you apply it normally
I would think there is a short circuit to the chassis somewhere
if it doesn't come on normally then the plug in the back of the
switch is moving around a bit and not actually plugged in.

It does have the R380 ..
