handbrake fault

Hi and good afternoon, I've swapped my Freelander and now have a Freelander 2 automatic, i have an intermittent fault with the handbrake. sometimes it will come on when i flick the switch and sometimes it wont when it doesn't work the cruise control wont work, because the fault shows on the dashboard and this stops the cruise control working in many ways its only a nuisances but when it comes to the MOT it will be a problem. Has anyone any idea of what the fault could be and can i fix it ,thanks. Kieron
