I have recently had my Defender (TD5 - 110) fail its (Spanish) MOT because the park light on the dash doesn't go out when I release the hand brake.
I thought it was the micro switch on the hand brake lever, so I replaced it, but the light is still on.
Has anyone else had a similar problem??

Does the white wire that leads from the switch go directly to the dash??

Many Thanks.

not sure on one of them.. but af ew of my cars have had a brake fluid level sensor which turned on the handbrake light with the fluid was low..?

You brilliant man@!!
I disconnected the wires on the brake fluid sensor, and the light went off. The hand brake sensor is working fine. The weird thing is that the brake fluid isn't too low. I'll top it up and go from there. I can disconnect the wires to get me through the MOT any way.

Cheers

Hi all, I have an 1988 110 with the same type of problem? my hand brake light on the dash glows dim all the time and I can't find a switch anywhere near the hand brake, I have top up the brake fluid but the light is still on, it always work ok, until I change the engine from a 2.5 n/a to the tdi 200, just wonder if I have left a wire off or it not going to ground some where, but as I said I can't find the switch? I'm sure one of you chaps here will no where this is any help would be appreciated thanks MBF:violin:
