Hi there

I have not tried fitting a hand brake cable before, and was wondering how easy it is??? i have a works manual seems a bit confusing??
I have also been quoted about £50 + vat for fitting ( I have the part) should i take the easier option??? and spend more time driving it, than underneath it??

It's not hard but the adjustment details are important. Some of this is from the original LR manual, some is from memory.

1. Chock front wheels
2. Jack up one rear wheel & support with axle stand
3. Release handbrake
4. Remove the rear prop shaft from the transfer case / hbrake drum.
You'll need 2 open ended 14mm spanners. Turn the prop by hand to
get to the top bolts. Easy with rear wheel raised!
5. Slacken the adjuster at the bottom of the drum backplate. 18mm I think.
6. Slide off the drum.
7. Now move to the hbrake lever and remove the rubber boot.
There are a couple of plastic screws.
8. Remove the split pin / washers etc to release the cable end.
9. Underneath the car, pull the cable back through the seatbox panel.
10. Release from the drum end. Can't remember the detail but I think it just hooks thru a slot.

11. Reassemble everything using the new cable, except the rubber lever boot.
You may need some washing up liquid to get the cable end through the panel
hole.

Adjusting
... doing this right prevents juddering / allows correct hbrake lever travel
12. Tighten the drum adjuster nut to 18 lb/ft
13. Slacken by 1.5 turns. Turn the drum a few times by hand to check it's free.
Drum end is done!

14. Now, turn the cable adjuster on the back of the lever end of the cable 'til the
lever adjustment is three clicks.
15. Replace the boot.

£50 is not bad if you don't have a jack, axle stands and a torque wrench.. or the inclination...

Good luck.
