Hand brake expander

My handbrake on my early 200 was binding and causing a horrible judder after a while of driving so I stripped it down and the hand brake expander fell apart as I got it out and whatever way I put it together it doesn't seem to work:scratching_chin:the cylinders dont seem to move when I move the rod so Im guessing its knackered, found one on ebay for £20 which seems cheaper than other places.
What I actually want to ask is should it have a circlip or similar on the rear as mine didn't and it seems like it should have one.
Where can I get the clip from?

the ramps with roller need to be right way round so they are forced out when lever is pulled ,there are no clips needed

The groove at the back of the expander, does that not have a circlip on it?
Il have another play with the expander I can't see anything that can actually go wrong with it.

if the ramps aren the right way round it wont expand if you pull out the 2 plungers with roller you will see slot roll fits in is tapered shallowest side goes toward back plate

The ramps weren't the right way round and it expands now, only 2 or 3 mm per side, is that about right?
