Just done some work on my land rover 109s brakes, and they are almost perfect, when i press on the brake moving allong they work every time and i get a furm pedal. However occasionaly when stationary still with the engine on, the peddal goes straight to the floor with no risistance. Whats going on! thinking survo or air (but im prity sure the survos ok and the brakes appear bled.

does pedal when stationary get firm with pumping, if not might be leak of fluid or air in system, have you checked master cylinder seals, is the pedal adjustment correct, is it petrol or diesel, if diesel the inlet manifold has a butterlfy valve that should be closed at tickover, even if partially open 2-3mm at tickover it will lose the vacuum making servo inoperable,
does pedal go down a bit when engine turned on (shows servo working)

have a close look at yer master cylinder for bubble appearing when the pêdal is pressed..

You bet Lord Slob, that this person had better check his master cylinder right quick, and then probably replace it or at least all the seals, and make sure the pedal always returns full height, or one day soon that brake pedal is going to hit the floor while he's doing 60 mph towards the back of a 44 tonne truck.

It's only a question of time ...

Yep check the master cylinder NOW!!!!

I had this fault on a van LUCKERLY i was doing about 30mph and hit the back end of my mates car, like charlesy says that could have been a 44tonne truck coming towards me!!!

yeh i understand all that, it just realy confuses me that it only happens ocasionaly when stationary, bizare, will look at the mc straight away. adam

they do that sometimes.. they will work fine they fail. i can only assume that someone up there likes you and has keep all yer failures, thus far , to only happening while not moving.. don't push yer luck check the master cylinder.

it happened to me in a maserati while winding alongside a scottish loch, after 30mins it was fine or so i thought. about three days later it failed again. after that it sometimes worked and sometimes dint, it only failed then while stationary as i wint driving it like that

while bleeding it we noticed bubbles appearing in the reservoir so we replaced it and all was fine
