Evening all, I'm new to this site and hope to get some help. Got a 54 Disco wich is remapped. Not long fitted a 2nd hand gear box and transfer box with diff lock. There was quite a lot of play on the fly wheel but didn't change it! Every thing is working fine except when accelerate hard up the gears I get a rattle/knocking at about 1800rpm in 2nd gear! It goes as quick as it comes and only in 2nd. Sounds like exhaust hitting chassis but no, not that simple! Checked all things like mountings etc but all good. Then today had a 3ton wood chipper behind and noise appears in 1st as well!!! Any ideas?

dmf would be my thought especially after you knew it had excess play and didnt change it ,should really be changed with clutch

That's what I was thinking and I totally agree with you I should of changed it at the time. Blew my main box up, got a 2nd hand one only to find after fitting it was buggered! Got another main box and by now time and money was running out so foolishly I didn't change plate and dmf

Agree with James, it does sound DMF starting to fail.

Given the complexity of the R380, I'd always go for an Ashcroft exchange unit, buying secondhand is often full of grief and expense.

Thanks for advice guys, confirmed what I thought! I should of known better and replaced dmf at the time.
