I occasionally use my 110 300 tdi as a shed puller. The van is a single axle and not the heaviest.
On anything other than the flat it struggles, temp in the red and on that long uphill drag on the A55 north wales, second gear!
Full size Allard intercooler, silicon hoses, Kenlowe fan, straight through exhaust, blanked off EGR, I have done a full top end rebuild, including injectors and its only done 80K.
Is this normal ?

fair enough, what I should have asked is what do you so knowlegable folk suggest as possible cause for this lack of power and any possible remedies.

Was she a runner when you bought her? why did you rebuild top end? She may need a skim? Give the lads a bit more info and you'll soon get some answers.

pump timing, waste gate and de laminated hoses.

The fact it gets hot I would also check viscous fan and radiator.

Its a Special vehicle LR built for the RNLI, Im the second owner since new. the sevice history ways a ton. I did the top end rebuild as a matter of course, cheap and easy to do.
I did a ground up rebuild of a safari 109 but this is my first "modern" LR. And I am a bit disappointed with its pulling power.

Should pull like a train!:)

Mine had corrosion in top of fuel injection pump as some dic waded it too deep. Sucked water in through breather. I was getting little turbo boost as a result. Pump rebuild and Allard intercooler, refurbed injectors and now a rocket ship! She also went from 22 to 30 mpg as long as I dont welly it!

Search on tuning the injection pump. There is a post titled sluggish disco I think that runs through how to do it.

If your talking about Rhuallt Hill, not far from Bodalwyddan, then my 200tdi shifts up that hill in 5th doing 45-50mph, so I would say there's something very wrong with it, if you have to go to second up there anyway

I've got a 1995 300tdi , it's a 90 with 162k on it but I'm starting to wonder if somebody has been playing with the engine because it pulls like a train.

I'm surprised you rebuilt the top end at 80k, what was it like before you did it

mine has 146k miles. Passed MOT with very low emmissions. Pulls like a train. Had a ton of oak in the trailer today. Hardly noticed it. Have a good look at that pump.
