gurgling sound

when I put my foot down I get a gurgling sound coming from what sounds like the dash any ideas.

Strangely the last time I had a similar noise it was a broken catalyst on my 3.9, I thought it sounded like water gurgling.

What car/ engine etc???

I had similar on my disco td5 and it sounded like the fan was blowing behinr the dash, traced it to split turbo hose

The hose that comes off the bottom of the turbo to the steel straight pipe that goes to the intercooler

What ever engine u have petrol or diesel a water gurgling sound behind the dash is a symptom of air trapped in the heater matrix.

hi . i think discool is right. about 8 monthe ago my td5 started making gurgling noises from behind the dash when you put your foot down.i was loosing a small amount of water took me ages to find the leak. it was the heater hoses that go into the bulkhead . replaced them bled the system all seemed ok for a while . gurgling then started again. i have bled the system loads of times still gurgling, i have given up , just tell any strangers in the car you had a curry last night.

I've just spent all day on mine, with the intention of just blowing out the radiator core, got underneath to find an oil line not connected.

I'm blaming the repair agent, but the swage fitting was rubbing on the side of the main cooling pipe downtube, showing evidence of a small leak.

I replaced the water/anti-freeze, taking note of the condition of the old water coming out, then topped it up following the manual (Haynes) guidelines. I repaired the downpipe with a glue-on truck-tube repair kit, as I'm undertaking 700km in a few hours. So far I've no leaks just tootling around town/home.

Anyway, gurgling stopped, the oil line is well away from the cooling pipe, and hopefully everything is cool!

I believe that with a Td5 engine a low coolent level can upset the heating system, like low or none at all heat from the matrix, perhaps it could also give u that gurgling sound.

So may be worth checking the level if u haven't already done so.

had a nosey around the water side yesterday pipes were very hard,so tried bleeding gurgling sound went and then came back so will have another go with the expansion tank unclipped and higher as the book says.

I have a disco 3 as well as my disco td5. The disco 3 recently had a gurgling behind the dash. Turned out to be engine oil in the brake servo coming from the vacuum hose. I only noticed the noise at start up. Just one thing to consider.

again i agree with discool when i noticed that i was loosing water in my td5 the expansion tank was empty . due to the hot weather hadnt had the heater on for a long time when i put it to blow hot the heater was only blowing cool when rad was hot and had the gurgling noise from behind the dash the empty expansion tank had let air in the system which seems to get trapped in the heater matrix which i cant get rid of.

I wonder if it would be worth parking the nose up a steep slope or ramp, so that the heater matrix is lower than the rad top?

Hmm, mine's gurgling AND there's a suitable slope nearby. Think I'll give it a try...

Yes it does! 40° slope, park nose up with heater on full, and it drained the header tank! Quick refill and loosen of the bleed screw, and no bubbles coming out. Finally have heat coming out of the upper vents, and no more gurgling from the dash. Score!

That's what I had to do on my RRC case up a slope, but from the 300 series and onwards they have a closed circuit cooling system and self venting, so no issues, if filled correctly that is.

bit late to this. My P38 2000 DSE just started making a very similar noise. Had problems with leaks in the passenger footwell in the past, and I've been meaning to get under the car to bleed the A/C tubes for a while. Is this issue likely to be the same thing on the P38? If so, ideas?
