Our Disco has these running boards but the box section that supports them is rotten. This seems fairly common, has anyone posted a guide to reparing them, or is the rubber step permanently attached to the box section?

You will have to have a look, a 'Genuine Part' step is welded to the two square support rods and then bolted to the fixing brackets on the vehicle, while some aftermarket ones are bolted at both ends.

which box section ya talkin bout?

the ones that attach to the car or the ones that run the length of the step..

either way, anything can be repaired with enough patience and welding wire..

just buy some more off ebay, they are always being listed on there cos people take em off if using off road..

If it is the supports that bolt onto the car, i had the same problem and all I did was unbolt them completely(Had to use a cutter on the bolts) , took the rusted parts to a local blacksmith who made new brackets from square tube. Good tip is to paint them before refitting.
