Freelander 1 Grippier tyres!!

Another option I found, keeping your speedo as (in)accurate as it came from the factory.:

225/55/17 Cooper Discoverer ATT 101H XL for about £105 each (including VAT), fitted at my local branch of Formula 1 in late March.

The price above includes the sneaky odds & sods such as fitting, balancing, valves, old tyre disposal that bump the price up by around a tenner a tyre. In fairness to Formula 1, I knew about those costs up front because I asked if the £93 was an all-in price and they were open about the extras when asked.

The are a 60:40 (on-road / off-road) tyre and I have been perfectly happy with them. The tyres I got the car on were shot and two were illegal, so I don't have a good baseline, but I have used the Cooper Discoverers lightly off road and in the recent snow without any issue.

I just checked the Formula1 Tyres website and the same Coopers are now £137 each (all in).

As someone suggested in an earlier post, maybe the prices for AT and winter tyres are at their highest about now. Worth bearing in mind if you still have some (legal) life left in your current tyres...

I’ve got a decent amount of tread left, at the moment. The post was part we’re going to the Scottish Highlands in April and I just like the look of chunkier tyres!
They do look ok though.

Whilst I like Cooper tyres, the Yokohama geolandar 015 do have the edge on wet weather and snow grip, as they are 3 peaks rated, which the Coopers aren't.

Can I put 225/60’s on my present rims that have 225/55’s on? Since the Geolandars aren’t available in 225/55/17.

Chunkier tyres will increase road noise and decrease fuel efficiency, probably not too great at cornering either. Sorry for being a drag.

Another vote for the Geolander GO15 - they're excellent in all road conditions - and fab in snow and fab in mud - what is not to like?

thanks for the recommendation on the Coopers as well, i'll take a look. price wise i'm probably favouring the geolanders for overall chunkiness and all round use.

Yes, 225/60/17 and 225/65/17 fit. I used 225/60/17 without any clearance issues, there was plenty of space for larger tyres.
Several forum members use 225/65/17 Geolander 015 and those fit too.
