grey axle oil

Yes indeed, I always try to push as much grease into the hubs as they will accommodate. I think the more grease there is, the less room for water!
Over filling a bearing with too much grease can cause excess churning of the grease during operation and high temperatures, resulting in overheating and excess grease purging (leaking). Overheating occurs because the heat generated cannot dissipate correctly, continually building until damage occurs. When a bearing overheats and pushes out the grease, the sealing lip can be damaged and “blown out” in the reverse direction.
Not a good thing ...

I think you'd need to pack a lot in to do that! Maybe if you managed to get a steering swivel filled to the brim, or stood an axle on end and filled it right up, popped the hub and seal on and drove around with it. You'd need something large flailing around to heat it up like a diff centre or CV joint. Little balls or rollers going round are fairly happy in my experience.

Not quite sure about the one shot stuff, I don't use it, on the rare occasions I have seen it, it has been dark green. Either way, wouldn't stress too much. Just drain and refill axle, check breathers, use and monitor the situation. I cant see much harm coming from either temporary water contamination or the one shot stuff.
Personally, I prefer EP90 in the swivels, easy check of all level plugs, you know where you are. ;)

+ 1 I stick to EP 90 as well. Oil is easy to change, grease is a pain.

Yes, and what I really like about the oil is that all the confusion about what oil, and where it has gone, becomes irrelevant.
You can just unscrew the three drain plugs and the levels will tell the story, no room for doubt! :)

Well sounds like I have a bad case of condensation most likely due to blocked breathers as its very grey in colour.. ill change it out and keep an eye on it. I have a drum of axle oil so it's not too much of an issue.. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing any serious damage which it sounds like I'm not.. so thank you for all your input.
