Hi. New to both this forum and land rover ownership. After much deliberation over what to buy for a couple of years through which time i started a family, i have finally been able to save up and go for a family friendly discovery 1 in nice condition, with all the “bad” bits either sorted or fine.

Just wanted to say hi really and also it turns out i need to sort out some swivel hub maintenance as there is oil coming past the seals. I was expwcting some sort of brake/steering maintenance to be fair. Anything i shoukd ahy away from attempting myself with the swivels?

Anything else i need to look out for on disco 1?

Hi, welcome.
There is a cheat for your swivel seals that people have had good results with. But if your swivels are pitted. Replace them. I tried the seals, but only noticed the swivels were pitted whilst in bits. I rebuilt with new seals and since bought the swivels to replace but not put them on yet. New seals have reduced seepage but swivels going on soon. The 7? Bolts holding the swivel to the axle tube, I had a bit bother as they were so corroded.
If you have a hernia, it’ll be popping out whilst lifting the unit off :)

All in all, easy job. Time consuming.

Excellent tip thank you. Ive just had to go and check and can see some minor pitting on the passenger side swivel. Im guessing you would only replace swivel if pitted and not as a pair just “because”?
As it happens the disco came with some spare swivels (one of which is also pitted) amongst a ruck of other spares. I might be able to build up/strip down one of those to refit.
