Hi,

Me and the missus are finally taking the plunge into the Land Rover world. We're currently shopping around for a Freelander TD4.

Looking at something around £5/6k cash plus a Part X, and think we might have found the one for us, being a 2006 Freelander Sport, 83k Miles, 2 keepers and FSH.

I wont pretend I know a lot about cars mechanically at all, so a few tips for what to look out for from a basics point of view would be helpful.

To put things in perspective, me and the missus have always owned low slung, hot hatches. My own car currently being a Racing Blue, Renault Sport Clio 182. (Its my baby so no hate please! lol)

The missus hopefully moving from her Citroen C2 VTS into the Freelander.

Reason for change you might ask? We are after something that can tow, something that will get her to and from work in all weathers, something that wont get blown about in high winds etc.

So...

Show the hate for the Hot Hatches, and give me some pointers on joining the LR Community :)

WELCOME! Go and have a look at the Freelander section, might answer some questions you have. Elsewhere in the forum expect some banter from the owners of real Land Rovers.. ;)

Hot hatch? pffft... poxy front wheel drive 5H1T3 the lot of 'em :p OK.... OK.... some are bloody quick and great handling poxy FWDS... :D :D

As has been said on numerous real car forums (Ford Capris, Pontiac Trans Ams to name my experiences) ...Front wheels are for steering, Rear wheels are for driving, anything else is for shopping!

Thanks for the welcome ... Especially DIFFLOCK66 haha.

Well, we ended up with a 06 plate Silver Freelander TD4 HSE. I say we... Its actually for the missus. She's ALWAYS wanted one.

Needless to say she loves it. I look forward to more banter. I might even post some pics up. :)

Thanks again!

Welcome. Definitely a mad house here.

Your '06 will around 8 years old, so expect things to go wrong. I have an '06 HSE - check out my thread on what I have had to do to mine. I only have 126,000 miles on it at the moment, so you aren't far behind.

Thanks peeps. I did a lil bit of research on here before buying, Everything is going well... so far!

I'm not mechanically minded at all, so if something goes wrong, it will be taken to an expert and fixed properly. I'd appreciate any recommendations in the area > Rotherham, Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster or Nottingham way. This is the way I've always done it with my little blue bullet (The Clio) in respect of works done, support the local experts/businesses. I might pay a premium for it, but at least its done by someone who knows what they are doing, especially after the experiences I've had over the years with main dealers (stealers).

I'm more of a detailing (Read as: OCD Cleaner) man, keeping the Clio clean is a passion, As for the Freelander well... Land Rovers are supposed to be filthy aren't they?! :p

@Stuart45 - Its almost like you know her! She's ALWAYS wanted a Defender, they are her absolute favourite. I remain to be convinced that she would sacrifice the apparent comfort of her choice so far. Time will tell... Who knows I might be converted from my little French hatch to something bigger and filthier, Ooo errr :)

Anyhoo... Some pics, excuse the quality of some of them, some were taken on the iPhone. (Yes I know you'll love the ones of the Clio too, in all its shiny brightness.) Bring on the banter! lol :)

When I first saw this pic I thought my roof was scratched in the lower left corner, on closer inspection its actually the reflection of an aircraft in the sky

This pic was taken in 2012 on the way to an event held by Cliosport.net (Clio Sport Saturday or CSS as its commonly called)
