Hello is there any good green lane sites in the south Wales area that are not to demanding on machine and driver, found one from Aberiswithe but not sure how to read the Route, any advice is much appreciated.
Tried to contact Swansea 4x4 Club, but no reply.
Is it just me or is there no body left down here, I know there is a route across the Brecons but not going to try that one on my own...
Have the route maps from offroadroutes...

HELP

plenty of hardcore routes in south wales mate. plently of people around too. i dont recommend going out by yourself anyway, as its not ideal in a recovery situation which you will inevitably get yourself into. where abouts are you based? theree is a nice route across the old sarn helen roman road which starts in the swansea valley and heads northeast. you could also look at doing a day around Brecon as there are literally hundereds of lanes you could tie together.

do a search for local clubs besides swansea 4x4. i think they are more of an arranged group/tour/excertion kinda outfit, rather than an "enthusiast" club, if you see what i mean.

plenty of other pople to go out with. i think nobber is at uni there. my folks live in swansea so a sat/sun laning isnt to far out of my way. just need to plan well ahead.

i will be planning on doing strata florida, sarn helen and the gap road one weekend this summer. will keep you all posted.

Cheers for that Griffdowg.
Will need to get an OS Map of Brecon, pack a picinic and head of for the day see were I end up.
Would like to go on the runs with you and who ever else turns up, only got a freelander with road rubber at the moment so might well get stuck.
I am based in Port Talbot, might go and talk to the guys at the local 4x4 center, with regards to routes and people as well. Looking forward to a trip out now, as I said have a couple of routes for Brecon will post them here with unlock codes as soon as I can.

good stuff. freelanders and welsh byways dont really go hand in hand. ive just got back today from a days laning with the north somerset LR club. we went to bridgend and worked our way back across the valleys over porth, ponypridd towards usk. it was pretty good with some real tight scratchy lanes.

anyway, you want OS landranger 160 for Brecon.

170 covers your immediate area by PT. there is an awesome part of of the old roman road, which starts in the neath valley and heads up to coelbren (sp.) its known as the "lane from hell" by many and is currently closed until may i think. the route from coelbren (sp) onwards is pretty good. you should be ok in a frissbe.

the beautiful thing about laning in wales is that the lanes can be very long without touching much tarmac. puts a smile on most peoples faces :)

anyway, happy hunting.

Will keep you posted about Brecon run...
Have a route map for a run out in Aberristwith (Spelt wrong) but not wanting to do it alone as only got a Freelander and bound to get stuck...
So anytime you want a gentle run out let me know, am looking to buy something a bit tougher but with limited funds and little knowledge will have to wait fo a couple of months for that...

Hi Guys,

Ian here (swporc), the lanes that we'll be running on the meet Jeremy has mentioned arent that challenging, but can and will throw up a few surprises!!!, especially if we have much more rain!!!

the laning will take place on the Saturday 5th may, so those that are staying on the campsite with us can enjoy a beer or 6!!!!!!

Guys If you are planning on coming with us on this laning trip, please contact me asap as we are closing the books when we get another 2 trucks (we have 8 at present), and we dont want to infuriate the locals whose ground some of the lanes impinge on.

sorry to be a pain!!!!!

Ian

 Guys have you messaged Ian at SWPOC to say you are comeing or not...
:mad:Nearly had to cancel as some yob decided to try and steal my wides baby the other night, not to worry all sort and should be fine for the weekend...:)

We leave Llangorse lakes campsite 10am to head to Crossgates Service station(SO 08801 64881), just north of Llandrindod Wells

We'll be there roughly 10:30 so if any of you want to meet us there if its nearer to where you are traveling from thats not a problem

Hi guys,
Just had a look at the pics of your weekend. Looks really good. You must count me in on the next jaunt out. I have a defender on mud tyres so ok to go out in the "mountains of Wales"
