Hi All, Can any one help me with details regarding the location of a large ford in the Sutton Coldfield area of the West Midlands. I have seen it mentioned in a couple of posts and would like to go and explore it myself.

Try the greenlaning thread for this fella. You might get more response.

I do happen to be from sutton myself though. There isnt a ford anywhere close to here though. Obviously the one in the park has been closed for years. The nearest one was over in packington towards coleshill/minworth. But the nearest i can think of now is solihull way.

There is a few of us usually out laning in the area. Send me a PM and you can tag along if you want.

Matt

with the rain we've been having lately there will be lots of fords appearing on local roads :)

BGB, finally got my disco working again after almost killing it at billing and then killing it on the way home lol, then coming down with a horrible bug myself that stopped me from doing anything for about 3 months lol. I'll keep an eye on the threads for greenlaning but PM me if there's anything soon, need to get it out and about again and start using the cooker I've put in the back lol, weekend of the 14th i can't do anything cause its works christmas party (yeah in jan lol)

you can forget Packington Ford, we lost that about 10 months ago

the right of way there has been handed over to the surrounding landowner by the relevant council and i think he's blocked the access

there's a road ford between Catherine de Barnes and Solihull that needs rain to get a splash which used to be used in Land Rover press publications (brilliant for photos revisited)

there's Temple Balsall/River Blythe but watch the depth as it can vary from 3-4" deep to sinking your Land Rover, i've seen the Blythe rise more than a foot in less than an hour (i'm an angler)

yep this was me :D

and there's another road one around the back of Barston that requires rain to get any form of splash, i'm not sure if i've actually seen water running through/over it

Kenilworth has a good ford by the castle, needs lots of rain to get that one up though, only ever caught it in cars never in my Land Rovers, i've probably only ever caught water running through/over it two or three times in thirty odd years of having a licence

Ive seen this video before, all i can say is "your brave" ive also seen the video where you took the head off to get the water out! :D

didnt know about the one in kenilworth, ill have to organise some lanes that way and check it out

oh and thanks :D

glad you enjoyed the videos :D luckily it wasn't anywhere near as deep as it can get, in full flood it would have been roof level

the Kenilworth ford is on the main road through to town as you go round the castle and not really on any laning route that i can think of unless you're possibly heading for the Ridgeway, the only time you're likely to see water running over that is when the River Leam is flooded as it needs that much rainfall to give us a good splash

look for Abbey Fields in Kenilworth on Google maps, the ford is connected to the lake there
