Hi guys, got another problem showing up, my p38 has been parked up the last year due to me having disc problems in my neck, its been started now and again (had to jump start once or twice) its not done much moving around, managed to get in it and take it a couple of short runs, last week tho (auto box) i was driving and it felt like the clutch was slipping, i got into the driveway and i took it out of drive into neutral and it kept going, i stopped it and tried reverse, it wouldnt move, i turned it off and restarted and i had reverse and forward, then a g/box fault showed up, there sounds to be a bit of a rattle when you rev it that sounds like maybe from the bellhousing, i tried it yesterday again and no drive, then turn it off, wait a few seconds and restart and its got drive, drove it for about half a mile and back to the drive and it felt again like clutch slipping, then the drive went, but turned it off again, waited ten secs and restarted and it drove in again, any ideas, the fault light isnt on now,

Thanks guys, my mate is going to get a look at it tonite and try your suggestions, he checked the gearbox oil on the dipstick already and its slighly over the mark

If you have a dipstick (later cars don't have one) then the engine needs to be running. Car in neutral and then check it. You should have an Owners Manual in the glove box which explains how to do many things.

Just to elaborate, engine and gearbox cold, engine idling, move slowly through all gears and back to neutral then check level. sounds like it may be low.
Oil and filter should be changed every 24K miles on the auto box.

Hi there, hes gonna recheck it tonite, he had the engine running, put it thru all the gears then back into park (all from cold) instead of neutral, would that make a difference, he did have a wee crawl underneath (hes a wee skinny ****) when it was running and did notice that the rattle/vibration noise seems to be from the torque converter, Im stuck on crutches just now so im relaying this to my mate and hes doing the checking, will check again tonite with it in neutral, cheers.

Park or neutral would make no difference.
Rattle from the torque convertor area could be the flex plate.

Hi again, he checked the oil last night, says its about an inch over the top mark on the dipstick, there was a secondhand box fitted about 1.5 years ago and because of my neck being knacked its only maybe done about 500 mls since then, he reckons the noise is coming from the converter though, hes checked all the connections, all looks ok, any more ideas
