feels to be loads of slack somewhere in the drive

cheers gas

Diffs they where nackered on mine, splines on half shafts, drive flanges it case of cheking drive train and elimination so much on drive train can cause a clunk:)

cheers thought id got away lightly

just a broken half shaft and a squashed roof

next weekend better be warm and dry

cheers

I had the same issue, i was chewing up UJ's every 4-6 months and put it down to the front diff ( sounded like the front end )

Replaced the diff with another which looked in good nick, also replaced the transfer box awhile ago, i also checked the halfhafts and all 'seemed' oki but the clunk is still there. I do have play on both propshafts so i'm beginning to think it's a gearbox issue...

You sure it's not the old gearbox-transferbox shaft wear?? That's what mine is and it's getting worse.. Just gotta organise transport up to James!

While having the rear diff cover off my 110 i checked it over as it also suffers a rather bad clunk on taking up and easing off load. I can replicate the noise by moving the crown wheel forward and back with my hand. It would appear wear develops on the splines of the rear half shafts and at a guess would also say the spider gear splines.
combine the play there by the play in the splines out at the hubs it makes for a lot of movement
