Good quality trickle charge solar?

Anyone got good experience with solar trickle chargers? Where this vehicle is going, there won't be much opportunity to get spare parts, so I don't want to buy cheap ('cos I can't buy twice). Equally, I don't want to throw money at a solution just to feel that I've bought something expensive. Has anyone got some positive (or negative) experience to share?

Any latitude with that? In the Arctic, you get nothing at all in the winter. Equator, it will be ansum!

Madagascar - so plenty of sun all year round. I'm looking for a panel and regulator combination that would be trouble-free in hot conditions for many years - obviously the panel is there to make the vehicle less maintenance-intensive rather than more!

Should be plenty of energy to be harvested there! :D No worries! Afraid I dont know any specific suggestion for that, maybe someone will! :)

You need a minimum of 50W solar plus a decent regulator. In the UK you can hook up a 25W panel direct to the battery, but if you have serious amounts of sunshine then a regulator is needed.

275mA is nowhere near enough to keep a decent battery up to charge, you need at least 1amp, partly to charge from any losses and partly to hold the battery up at the fully charged level.

A 50W panel with a cheapish PWM controller is what I would suggest.
