Good Freelander - Surely Not?

Hi all

Been a while since I posted as nowt has gone wrong!!!!!

Had my 51 reg 1.8 for a year now 75000 when I got it 85000 on now. Just sailed through its MOT, the only money spent £180 on a blown exhaust and £50 for clutch slave cylinder, not bad considering that if you believe some of the doom merchants on here I would be homeless by now due to the millions it would cost me when the thing blew up and demolised the local school, and killed all my neighbours!!!! Only other thing is I keep a good eye on the engine oil and coolant.

I have also just gone mondo mode to see what if any savings I can get on petrol. I would be interested what other people think about Mondo, any probs with it, any noticable difference driving etc.

I found a noticable change in handling characteristics when we went Mondo whilst we were waiting for a rear diff mount to be delivered. Horrid.

WRT the cost of maintainence, our TD4 is on 80,000 and other than servicing and tyres, has had a new windscreen wiper linkage (£70, but we could have stuck with the "temporary" repair that cost 20p) and a rear diff mount (£20).

There are good'ens out there (mine's another one! - 14 months & 12K miles and now't but consumables and doozle). Forums like these and most places where people can rant on the internet are massively oversubscribed by people with problems so that's mostly what you see.

It has also been said (not by me of course ) that there are some on this forum who are a tad biased against Freelanders. I won't name names but I think we all know who!!

Anyway, glad your Freelander is being good to you - and long may it continue!!
