going to buy disco wanting advice

hi all :),

i am going to look at a 1990 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 3 door TURBO DIESEL

the advert states it has the following faults

  • front drivers side swivel joint has a bit of play in it
  • sills could do with some welding
  • slips out of first gear when stood still
the disco also has the following upgrades

  • hi lift jack
  • curved trailing arms
  • spring cones
  • 3 inch lift
just wondering if it is worth buying and how much, i have never had a landrover before but have driven my friends 90 thanks for any help
 
Sounds like a usual old well used off roaded Discovery to me :)

Faults sound par for the course.....but expect to find more. Don't think I'd buy it unseen at that age to be honest and certainly pay no more than £1200 for it.
 
ha ha, av done engine rebuilds, clutches and gearboxes on cars never worked on a landy before though so dont know what am getting myself into yet. also going to buy a new welder sounds like am going to need it :)
 
There are a number of Discovery clutch change threads about on this and other forums so that will tell you how to get the box out. Personally I suspect that it is a worn selector fork..........probably because someone rested their hand on the gear lever while waiting at traffic lights. :)

1994 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY TDI GREEN on eBay (end time 30-Nov-09 20:22:09 GMT)

£1200 my mate got this for £795 i fitted a snorkel for him sat and the only rust i could find anywhere was 2 front inner arches and it had 12 months mot and 5 brand new tyres and brand new towpack
