Going for bigger tyres, insa special track or kumho muds?

I'm currently running 33,12.5 r 15 kumho KL71 muds, They are starting to wear out and at the same time I'm looking to go bigger to gain more clearance under the diff.

Been very impressed with the kumhos on and off road so i'm looking at 35 inch versions (same width and rim size) or 285 75 r16 insa special tracks. I understand the insas are much more agressive but wondered if anyone had experience of either of these?

Many thanks, Harry

I have Insas, 265 75

They are brilliant in the mud, loads and loads of grip, had them on my Disco, have them on my 90...

on the road.... well, loads of noise, its like a plane.
But them again, a Defender is noisy anyway..

and they are not that bad in the wet, some people say they are ****, I never had a problem, maybe they need to learn how to drive. they are not great...but not ****, only time I skidded was when i had to brake hard for a **** that doesnt know what a roundabout is.. and it skidded there.

Im not really the right person to comment on that..

I only use the 90 for greenlaning/muddy fun on the Salisbury plains, so fuel consuption is something I dont even look at as i only use it on weekends

Regarding tyre wear... I've had the Insas for 2 years now...but then again, the 90 is SORNd during the summer as I only use it when we have mud.
But to be honest, I've driven it (as I have to) on the road and it doesnt seem to wear much, i thought they were gonna last less time as its a 90% mud / 10% road, tyre.

there pretty much the same size as the 33;s, ive got 315/75/16 on mine Hankook Dynapro RT03 Muds they perform great have better sidewalls than the Khumo;s and are bigger/quiter than the insa;s. i got 5 from Camskill tyres for £470 delivered with a load rating of 127, and there great in mud and over rock

not tried them on a defender but a mate has special tracks on his disco and they are very noisy compared to other mud tyres but in the mud they are great.

have you considered the hankooks? seem to work well on and off road, wear ok and arent as noisy either

Hey Stu, how are you finding them on the road? Just how bad is the noise and fuel consumption?

Harry

hi mate i find them OK running them at 28psi, iv not done many miles on them yet or motorway run. road noise i don't think is that bad just a bit of a hum from 30mph but dose not get any louder at 50, its no way as bad as i thought it was going to be. and they have not seen mud yet
fuel consumption? my fuel gage dose not work and as said im not doing any mileage only doing 10mile a day.

Hi
I have a set of 33 x 12.50 x 15 KUMHO KL71 tyres and I find them quite noisy even at the max speed limit of 35 mph here in Guernsey and at 125kph they are very very noisy. I have been looking at the Road Venture AT KL78 has anyone tried them. I don't go off road much and we don't get much snow. All comments welcome.
Thanks
Jes

Hi i had 265/75/16 kl71`s on my disco, i thought they were good on the no ecessive noise griped well, off road they were quite good untill it was muddy they just cloged up with mud and no matter how much ****e i gave it they didnt seam to clear very well.

I got 33 x 12.50 x 15 KUMHO KL71 on my 110 and think there great on and off road and if they get a bit noisy i turn the radio up.... sorted !

didnt have the KL71 down as being very noisy. defenders are pretty noisy as standard but in comparison to some of the MTs ive tried they a one of the quieter sets.

Mine will be going up for sale next month as I'm looking for something more road focused, they're Fedima Sirrocco's and sit at 285/75/16. Couldn't say how tall they stand but they are pretty big!
