Been offers a v8 with carbs ready to go and had some tweaking done for £100
Gotta be worth a go in my ambulance lol
Just need an lt77 now

not ebay ths time you auction theif lol
a guy at work is into breaking a few ranger rovers for parts for his racer and he got a few spare engines
trouble is no gearbox
i been reading online today and im wondering on gearbox ow as i may have a choice
do i go for the lt77 or the r380 ?
from what i have read so far they are almost the same
does anybody know what the main diffance is and is one better than the other and whch is easyer to get hold of ?

can't tell you much between them, but as owner of an early 300tdi Disco with an R380 in it, I can tell you that the early R380's had problems with premature failure and a 'fix' is to run them ATF instead of gearbox oil.

you would, however, be back to the problem of a permanent 4wd transfer box and a front axle not designed to run permanent 4wd.

I know about the axle prob
I'm gonna fit a pair of range rover axles and mod them for leaf springs

give the front prop a bit of thought if you're going to do it in 2 stages ... else you'll (probably) mod the prop to fit the new box to the Series axle, then possibly have to shorten the prop again when you fit the RR axle.

you'll find when you fit the RR axle (unless you do major surgery on it) the diff nose points upwards quite a bit, whereas the Series diff nose is horizontal. this shortens the required prop length.

The lt77 and r380 as far as I can remember are diffo in respect of the distance between the 2 shafts, I think thats what the '77 means for the lt77, 77mm apart.
The r380 has beefier bearings, and with can take more torque and is probably a better bet.
You can or could get a kit for the '380 where you can select 2wd or 4wd instead of permanent 4wd, might be handy if you wann keep the original front axle.

whats probally gonna happen is the truck will be off the road for a year and i will give up me fishing for the same time and concentrate on fixing up the truck
so will be rebuild the engine first mate that to a gearbox
strip the front body and bulk head off and get engine and box fitted with the prop position as close to original as poss
mod up the body and get that refitted
mod up a pair of axles with new leaf springs off the car so its just a case of remounting the springs to the chassis
then its a siple job of getting the props made up to the correct length
i know its a ton of work but its all doable so bring it on !!!
