Got a vehicle TD4 where someone in the past has twisted the nut off on the glowplug and it just goes round.

There are some kits that do removal at around £30 where you pull the electrode out, drill, tap thread then tap the centre and pull that out. Looks OK but has anyone actually done it ?? Risk of bits being left in and head off spring to mind.

Its on my to do list....seen the videos on you tube and looks simple enough.

Not brave enough to try it yet ( got 3 of them out and swapped and starting problem gone so not in a rush )

OK, which one of us is first ?!?

I have a spare head but plugs are not seized in that so it wouldn't be a good test !!

Yes, but the point is, the tip welds into the long thin hole in the head. I would have to glue the whole plug in. Then that isn't the same as being carboned in.

Tricky one ...

Agree, but here we have 4 x open circuit plugs and only one unscrewed with the 18Nm torque wrench. No way do I want to add to the broken one. One just turns, but is safely screwed into the head, just the nut has been fractured at some point. One unscrews then goes too tight to unscrew without exceeding the same torque figure. One just refuses to budge at all. Car is better with one good plug but 2 or 3 would be better!!

Hot engine but not external heat yet.
As you know the electrode passes down a thin hole all the way into the cylinder, not sure the heat would penetrate. Now if the plug worked I could power it up for heat !! Duhhh
