Glowplug relay

The TD4 uses a glow plug control module, just like most other modern diesel engines.
The glow plug control module is below the glow plugs, bolted to the front of the engine block. You need to remove the inlet manifold to see it.
 
Wen engine is cold its take ait to start and wen does get a load of white smoke and smells of unburnt diesel and it's ok from then on now problems starting car all day change glow plugs and it's no different the light doesn't come on the dash hasn't for abit now so that's y I think it's a fuse or relay
 
Have you checked that you are getting power to the glow plugs?

If the engine is above 15°C, the glow plugs won't be used for starting, and the ECU won't power the glow light.

The glow plug control module is easy to change, but I've never known one to fail.


Fault sounds more like a leaking injector, than a glow plug issue.
 
No it's only wen I start car 1st thing and it's fine all day can leave it a go 4/5hrs and would start on 1sr turn
 
What do u mean about get codes read the 1s on the injectors or in the ECU and b4 still smoke on start up but not all the time only wen it's cold it is worse

So it smoked on starting, even before the injectors were done?

Why did you have the injectors refurbished?

The TD4 don't normally need the glow plugs for it to start, unless the engine is below about 5°C. However the EDC will power the plugs before starting if the engine is below 15°C, just to keep it running cleanly.

Really you need to check the glow plugs are getting battery voltage if the engine is below 15°C, and only plugging in a diagnostic reader will tell you the engine temperature, as that's available on the live data.

Also check the glow plug fuse is intact.
 
On my 2002 Td4 there is a relay for the glow plugs in the Lshaped ecu box. Easy place to check feed to plugs then obvs check at plug if good there. Thick brown wires identify it.

Had injectors done coz 2 wasn't working so got them all done

Yes. There's a few temperature sensors, but the engine coolant temperature sensor is under the inlet manifold, screwed into the cylinder head.;)
