Dear All,

Just like to post a public thank you for Richard, I burnt some bearings out
on a drivebelt pulley over the festive season, and although Richard didn't
have the part in stock he phoned around the local factors where I was in
Cumbria and found somebody who claimed to have the part in stock.
This is service well beyond the call of duty and I cant emphasise enough how
grateful I am to Richard.

As a Foot note; when I got to Lakeland Land Rovers in Torver, near Coniston,
they didn't actually have the part due to the supply wagon being snowed in
someplace in Yorkshire. However to their credit they stripped the parts I
needed off their sales demonstrator!!!

As for the RAC who left me, my pregnant wife and our Fifteen month old on
Shap fell from 12.30am until 5am at -8deg.C No praise at all!!!!!

Tis truely good service. Well done Richard!

I had the chaps at Lakeland look at our Disco ES just after we got it. My
Diff lock wouldn't engadge... 10 minutes of "firmness" had it sorted and us
back on the road. We were caravanning alongside Coniston and I didn't want
to look a wassock the next time I went to reverse up hill onto a pitch.

Regards breakdown recovery take a look at this as a serious alternative for
£30 a year...

I need to read up on their views on 101 campers save all that faffing with
the AA/RAC where you never really know until your stuck on the road.

Sad to say that I'm partly responsible for the state of the AA. they sent
us all a letter some years ago, so that we could vote on the takeove by
Centera - and a nice little bonus if we voted yes... like many others, I was
naive enough to believe the bull**** and grab the money. Of course, the
crap about how the investment was going to make a bigger and better AA was,
as I now realise, crap, and the whole thing has become profit driven.

Sad, I call it. Both the RAC and the AA breakdown services started off as
more-or-less non-profit organisations for the benefit of members [aside -
can you still get "club" membership of the RAC in London?] and have become
increasingly commercial and profit-driven.

Hmmm.... looks interesting, for the RAC cover I had relied on NFU who as
part of fully comp Insurance offer RAC service, however when organising my
recovery off the M6 at such an antisocial hour I discovered that the NFU
cover is a pay on use service and so I will be receiiving an invoice
ultimately from NFU for a non disclosed amount. Which reminds me to go and
dig out my policy and read the small print and see what they are going to
stuff me for! I like the idea of pay and claim, but I am always a bit
distrustful of services that seem to good to be true (with the exception of
Beamends of course!)

Yes, see http://www.royalautomobileclub.co.uk/guestarea/home.asp

I seem to remember it wasn't sold with the rest of the RAC.

I have had good service from Lakeland too, when I was on holiday up there
Piglet wasn't running right, and the brake pads also needed replacing. I
arrived late in the day, explained what the problems were. I left a happy
chap with all the bits I needed, which *they had in stock*! There was some
severe headscratching at first when I pointed out the computer wouldn't be
much use, as Piglet was only a Discovery ES in body, not in heart <grin>
