Since the weather has come cold I have noticed my hippo when I first start it hasi become smokey for a few mins

Hasn't been like this all summer so I was thinking it mighty
E the glow plugs I have no record of them been changed and thoughtthismight be where the problem is

My question is are they a nightmare to remove I remember a mates car snapping them when trying to remove

Last thing I want is to snap them

I changed the plugs on my L series ( you can only Change 3 of them ) because it took a long time kicking over to start in cold weather and I got lots of smoke for about a min. Didn't make any difference after so now I warm them up a few times before I start her up and she starts straightaway and no smoke The colder it gets the more times I warm them before starting

if you changed your plugs and still need 4 times surely thats a fault somewhere

non of my other diesels have had the smoke like the landy

as i can use a halford trade card i no glow plugs are not expensive my main concern is them breaking/snapping

I had a BMW E46 320d with a problem like this, SOB wouldn't start. Changed the glow plugs.. still no difference. Was there actually any power to the glow plugs? Errr No! Replaced the 100A fuse and booom started on the first crank.

i have no problem starting the car its just the white steam/smoke out the exhaust for the first minute it fills the street up lol

ben fine all summer i think it was like it last winter but didnt have much cold weather since i bought it to find out the problem

try turning the switch and let the glow plugs come on then as soon as the light goes out turn off then back on in the last winter, I did this 3 times in a row and no smoke, I intend to put new heat plugs in this year

If you only change 3 glowplugs you could still have tricky starting in the morning try testing glowplug number 4 by doing a resistance test with a multimeter, I found the easiest way is to take the control unit off the injection pump, be sure to mark the control unit to the body of the fuel pump as this is critical. When you have done this it will be about a 20 minute job :)

well it all went wrong today

started by i couldnt find the tools i needed

once found took engine cover off again and sprayed more wd went out on road to get all hot and come back and sprayed more wd

took nut off the wire and got me 10mm 1/4 drive and it wasnt bloody long enough...

so get my 3/8 ratcket and only just long enough but would the bloody thing move would it hell

so in the end the wire got refitted and packed up

these plugs really are a ball ache

Soaked these plugs over night and again today also went and warmed the engine up and soaked again

But still wouldn't move and didn't want to snap them :(

I think there must be something other thats not right with your L series if this is the case. I have one duff glow plug behind my dieselpump and 3 good ones. Mine is cranking up easily in 20 degrees celcius below freezing every time.

I changed mine coz of the smoke when weather cold plus I didnt no when they were last done and my god they were a pig to remove so im guessing along time ago lol for the sakeof £12.50 delivered it worth the change
