Hi guys I have a 2004 td4 2.0 diesel. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the glow plug relay? Can't seem to locate it. Anyone have a picture of where it is so I can check it? Thanks
Hi 2004Freelander 2.0 diesel trouble starting when engine is cold. Takes a few cranks to get started. Cloud of smoke then runs fine. Starts no problem when engine is warm. Changed all the filters, crankcase breather and camshaft sensor. Was told it may be the relay not heating the plugs up enough to startThere isn't one. Being a relatively modern diesel, the TD4 uses a glow plug control module, which is under the inlet manifold.
Why do you want to know?

If the glow plug light is coming on, then it's more likely to be the glow plugs, which are wearable items. Was told it may be the relay not heating the plugs up enough to start
I have changed all the glow plugs and still the same issueIf the glow plug light is coming on, then it's more likely to be the glow plugs, which are wearable items.
The Electronic Diesel Control system determines how long to keep the plugs on. There is a relay which follows instructions from the EDC. The relay is in the black L shaped box behind the battery. Will add photo from Haynes. The thick brown wire is a good place to check you are getting a feed when engine cold.
If there is a feed and cold starting is bad you'll need to whip the inlet manifold off and resistance check the glow plugs.

Thank you mate will check this outView attachment 201779
Black box and relay. Solid coloured thick wire, brown, is feed to glow plugs.
Are you sure Andy? The glow plug fuse (fuseable link type 40A IIRC) is in the fuse box, but I'm sure the control module handles the switching current. Of course I'm always happy to be corrected. There is a relay which follows instructions from the EDC. The relay is in the black L shaped box behind the battery
Would this be the relay? On all TD4s I have seen, the relay is as per Haynes, photo above and the box that is under the inlet manif purely holds a connector for the incoming feed and the 4 plug feeds.
I have also used the relay as a test point so it certainly exists!! Maybe a change during production?
It's definitely a relay, and the cables are heavy enough to be for the glow plugs.Would this be the relay?
Das the one!!!Would this be the relay?
On my 2002 Td4 there is a relay for the glow plugs in the Lshaped ecu box
You said....
That's interesting. There isn't on my 2005, unless I've missed it
I don't know the TD4 - but I'd guess it connects to the other cut wire.Hi all, I need to reborn this conversation, my td4 Freelander 2005 have a cutted wire on the module of the picture, as you can see on image. Can someone help me knowing where this wire have to be connected?
Best wishes
