I've got a Series 2 landy on my drive we have been working on for a little while. We have rebuilt the engine, reseated the valve caps etc and it's working like a beauty! (head gasket was gone when we bought it so we decided to rebuild the engine while we was at it so I could learn a little more)
Anyway, the wiring is an absolute mess! Don't have a clue how the previous owner wired the switch panel, the switches go to so many Y splitters it is impossible to tell what they do. The glow plugs were also not wired which is what I am talking about now. I have designed a simple electronic circuit running off the battery which will act as a timer for the glow plugs. When the switch is pressed, the integrated circuit will keep the output high for ~5 seconds. The output of the IC will be wired to a 12V relay that will power the glow plugs as well as an LED for the dash. However, I don't have a clue what kind of amperage I will need the relay to cope with, I have a small 5A one which will be miles to low to handle the load. The glow plugs are wired in series. Also, would you reccommend an inline fuse for these? AFAIK it shouldn't be necessary but I have read about people doing this. Opinions?
