glow plug light

The pre-heat time is controled by the ECM using info from the coolant temp sensor. The ECM changes the pre-heat time depending on the temp of the coolant, which gives indication of the outside temps. The warning light indicates that pre-heating is taking place. Maybe on a td4 pre-heating doesn't always take place, I would wait for more replies from owners of td4s, sorry I have an l-series which is a bit simpler.

i still think that the light on the dash used to light up no matter what as a sort of pre flight check i,m sure i think oh i carnt remember now

On the TD4 the glow plugs are a fast acting type in walm weather they activate so quickly that you will never see the heater plug light on the dash. If it is starting first turn of the key then all is well, once we start to get the colder weather then you will start to see the light again.

it starts first turn every time no matter what the weather carnt believe i want a cold snap just to see anyway fingers crossed that all is well in the land of freelanders

Yes mines a Td4. Apart from the depths of winter its only this spring that its ever failed to start instantly, even if it if was cool enough for the light to come on, and I now know I had an injector on the way out.

Hi

I have a td4 and the light is not coming on at all at the moment and even when it does come on in colder weather you only see the light for initial start up on a morning

Soo nothing to worry about

Gordon:)

Haven't seen the glowplug light for a couple of weeks on my Td4. Only comes on when the weather gets colder. Was exactly the same last summer.

hi all i no its not cool enough for the use of the glow plugs but shouldn't the bulb light up as part of the system check when you first turn the ignition on ?????

shouldnt complain really had it from 6 months old and apart from a fuel leak no probs and now its just turned 132000:D

2001 X TD4 - no the glow plug light does not come on as part of pre check or if it does its that darn quick you can't see it. mines garaged overnight so is cooler than being parked outside.

Glow plugs work fine in the winter!

cheers to everyone i dont feel as worried as i was i will just wait till winter see what happens and if i do have problems i no were to come:D
