Holset HX35

Thinking more along the lines of compounding

Pretty much goes straight on but make sure your cooling system is A O K first

There are companies that make a full Ali rad for around £200 that are triple core and the right size, Datatek has sent me the info to conver the Aircon fans to run in conjunction with the viscous fan so cooling shouldn't be an issue.

For the power level I feel the P38 needs I'm thinking more along the lines of a TD05-19t with found on the Volvo V70R iirc and a WRX STI to flow the correct amount of exhaust gas and a blower from Eaton for the low down grunt. I'm not putting on a track or down the strip, it's going to be a work horse to pull trailers with 2ton cars on.

Get it running sweet before pushing any power or those knocks get louder. They tow no problem as standard just get a run up on hills ;)

The lump is being pulled for a rebuild and I have a turbo at work from a 3.9/4.5 four pot Cummins diesel out of a bus that is more that capable of giving the power without the added issues of vnt/vgt

I do wonder on the cooling problems if it has something to do with the thermostat being on the return into the head, i keep meaning to look it the way they did it in the e46 bmw`s
most things i have read say do not increase the turbo pressure up more than about 3psi ,18psi max

They increase the cooling on the bimmers when upping the power. There’s less room in them too so you’d think p38 would handle it fine. Extra weight of the vehicle/drivetrain puts extra stress on the engine perhaps?

No idea why they put the thermostat on ‘wrong’ end with the P38
My guess is they thought it would warm up heaters quicker so as not to appear so defenderish

That turbos good for 400bhp. Gearbox out of 5.2SC?
Good luck getting it through emissions

At about 6500rpm.

I'm going to use the holset he221w off the Cummins lump as that is better suited for the Rangie and it may fit inside the TD04 exhaust housing without too much hassle, may need to adjust the waste gate actuator...
