Hi all
P38 Thor 2000.
I have inherited a ghost. The auto locking engages and disengages at random moments when parked or when traveling and occasionally when I operate my garage doors.... but not always. Annoying trait and cant get my head round it.
Any thoughts.

Many thanks
Simon

Sounds like your drivers door latch is showing signs of wear, Soon to be a failure with all the pain that goes with it.

Somebody else will confirm, why the garage door affects it I am not sure is your door a remote door?

Micro switches in the drivers door lock.
Many wireless devices use the same frequency band. Unfortunately the MK1 & MK2 FOB receivers in the P38 are a poor design so they respond to a wide range of frequencies. It wakes up the BECM and can prevent unlocking but I have never heard of it causing the car to either lock or unlock as the correct rolling code is required for that to happen.

+1 on driver's door lock
Marty does a superb job on refurbed lock and if you buy a new one then could send the old to Marty for spares to help someone else

The power for the rear tailgate is fed through one of the drivers doorlock microswitches, this is what helps to burn them out .
@martyuk fits better quality higher current-rating microswitches in his repaired/refurbished units to prevent future burn-out.

Yep, the centre one. Can easily be replaced on early models, bit more involved on later ones.
