Sorry if this has already been asked or done to death.
But I am relatively new to landies, so please forgive any ignorance.

I have a Series 3 88" with a two & a quarter litre diesel. I don't really want to swap the engine, but I do feel the need to get as much usable power out of it as possible.

I have replaced the Oil bath filter with a K&N oil bath replacement filter, which I am fabricating an air box which will be plumbed into a raised air intake. Which will also include the appropriately sized Hiclone fitted at the manifold end of the air hose.

I am going to replace the stock radiator with the hot climate radiator and 8 blade fan, not sure whether to fit the oil cooler though

After the above my knowledge starts to run dry, any suggestions would appreciated

Cheers

Chris

firstly it's not a sports car, it you could make it go faster you'd then be posting asking how to make the brakes more effective

those KnN filters are a waste of money, dont ask why - they just are

Hiclones - if they worked why arent all vehicles fitted with - i was wondering when someone on here was going to admit actually buying one

fitting a raised air intake - sound idea 10 outta 10

fitting a BIG radiator along with a BIG fan, bad move - and then to add insult to injury you want to cool the oil ! - do that and you'll probably over cool the engine and it REALLY won't thank you for that

welcome to LZ

so if hyclones are effective why not test same as hyclone but without it fitted.

their rolling road tests are with hyclone no filter v stock filter=bull****

ever read the replorts on people who tested the hyclones sean !

don't you mean the person ?

"wow it's great saved me a fortune in fuel"

"my 1982 metro now does 128 MPH and 78 MPG, thanks ! "

"my doctor plumbed one into my left ventricle and now i am running in the 100M Olympics final"

yer i have read them

yeah sorry i edited the gramma **** up

made me laugh, yer hit the nail sayin why dont they fit them as standard if ther so good , i wouldnt even pay the postage never mind buy one,

ere sean , goin off topic, yer kno the back plates on the series front axle, where yer take the stub axle off thers a ( lookin from the back of the plate down the hole) brass / phosper bronze bearing pressed in the end to support the halfshaft between the two taper bearings, any idea who does them and how yer get them in ?

Christ!

I go down stairs to let the dogs out for a P*ss and get a whisky and I come back to this :)

Cheers any way though.

OK the K&N filter was bought due to being available, the original filter was, lets just say, the stuff I found in it was I swear "breathing" :screaming_bug_eye_f

I haven't actually bought a Hiclone yet, so please let my off with a slap on the wrist if I deserve one.

Bigger radiator & fan, I just thought If I could cool it better I might get a little more out of it.

Personally my knowledge and experience is more with welding & fabrication than engines, which is largely why I joined this forum, to learn.

Cheers

thers a place by halfords as yer turn up to the prison in stafford, used to be a diy shop , they now sell bearings and engineering bits to the trade,

might try and get a set , but i think they then need reaming out after ? not sure. but i think yer right with the heat ;)
