Getting the fan off - Disco 2 auto

Hola

Any pointers how to get the fan off on a Disco?

The glorious Haynes manual says i need a special tool - i've fallen foul of seeing that and purchasing some wierd and wonderful tool, when a bent screwdriver would have done just as well...

anyway, any pointers would be gratefully recieved.

PS - i need to take the oil cooler out as decided to crack the inlet pipe when putting on new hoses... so do i actually need to take the fan off?

you can buy a 'Laser' fan spanner from halfords, 32mm IIRC for about a tenna. the TD5 is a normal thread so anticlockwise shock to crack it.

I got my intercooler out without removing the fan (03 facelift model), but the radiator had to be pushed back towards the engine to do it.
