Hello,

I am going to replace the remaining 7 valve guide oil seals on my 200tdi (I did one which had crept up a valve stem the other day) but I need to make sure that the cylinder I am working on is at absolute TDC. I have a tool which allows me to compress the valve springs far enough to remove the collets and thus the valve springs without the need to remove the head. It works a treat and the valve drops about 1-2 mm until it rests on the piston head. What is the firing order of the 200tdi? I can identify which piston is at the top of it's stroke but I would rather know where I am going next (for certain) from no.1 cylinder which is at TDC when the valves on no.4 cylinder are rocking.

Thanks

should be 1-3-4-2

Cheers sypher :) I've swapped all eight valve guide oil seals tonight with the head in place. It was quite an easy task once I figured out a method to the compressing of the springs and the removal of the collets. The little buggers seem to be mildly magnetic, so they like to stick themselves to the valve stem. It's all good when the engine is running but the combination of the magnetism and the three lugs which sit into the corresponding groves on the valve stem make removal and refitting a pain in the arse!
