righty, went to start the old heap up today after it bieng stood since its death on xmas day, the battery was flat so i had to wire it up to the omega! it wouldnt start on petrol and i know there is a bit in there but it started on gas, i'm getting it ready for the engine out and rebuild. any ideas why it wouldnt start, anything i need to address. it would nt run on petrol either i know the first step is to get some good fresh petrol in there but i'm just curious as to why the petrol side was useless and the gas side fine. it cant be plugs and leads as the gas worked.

Could well be petrol if theres only a little in the tank it will deteriorate quicker than a full tank. I have a speed boat and fill it up before winterizing it and add a stabilizer to it. The first year i had it there was only about 2 gallons in the tank with no stabil and it was a bitch to start.

Hi Gav,

Doesn't yours need petrol to first start and then click over to gas or will yours start up straight on gas?

Sounds like off petrol to me....it dont last long even in the tank.

how would you know what off petrol is, you run everything on coal where you come from dont ya!!!!

i suspect off or too little petrol myself to be honest, just trying to illiminate anything major!

Hi Gav,

if you have the switch in gas mode and start engine it will start on petrol and then go to gas at the pre-determined revs set in the controller(some do it on water temp too) but, and i think this applies to all systems that allow you to select petrol/gas manually, if you have the switch on gas then switch to petrol then back to gas you will see the gas selected light illuminate and you can start dirctly on gas. this helps when the engine is warmed up and you stop at the shop etc or if you run out of petrol/encounter problems or failures in the petrol line/supply!

if you do this from cold tho you will need to start the car then monitor the vapouriser as it can freeze and bugger the vap! best to start run it a little then stop and leave it a short while then start again and build the heat up steady without freezing the vap. obviously you would only do this in a situation where you had no petrol available to start the car on from cold or it could do more damage than its worth.

nevertheless its handy to know!
