Evening chaps,

I am having bother with my freelander td4 after 2 weeks of ownership, its struggling to start and idling rough when cold plus I am getting a noticible high pitch whine when driving up the revs.

Its been into garage where I bought it from and they say they have checked out everything they can think of such as fuel pump, filters, injectors and egr valve etc but still no luck or clue.
Guy has told me to take it to a land rover specialist and use my warranty however I am not satisfied with that answer as its run like cack since I got it.
The issues ease off once engine is hot but still it should run fine regardless of temp.

Guy said its a 9 year old motor so dont expect it to be perfect, what a cheeky fool!!

Any ideas guys as my patience and confidence in this motor is getting less and less each day? :(

Pass mate, surely if it was as easy as that then they would have replaced them?

But surely if they were a decent garage they wouldn't have let you take the car back with the problems still present? Screams cowboy to me so might be worth taking it to a specialist to check it over anyway cause if the garage you bought it from cant even cure a misfire then who knows what they've bodged.

Its now obvious that they are not a good garage now. :(

the garage yu bought it from is liable to get it fixed for 6 months....

send them a letter stating that you give them ( a week) to get it fixed. If they cant do it within that time period, you will consider that they are in breach of contract and either want your money back, or will take it elsewhere to get it fixed and charge the repairs to the garage you bought it from.

if that doesnt work - small claims court and Trading standards.

see the crock of **** thread.

sometimes with glow plugs, they can snap as you try to undo them. if this happens you have to take the head off the car to sort it.

An old trick we used to use at Mercedes was to tip half a can of coke around each one then leave it over night. Coke shifts anything, just look what it does to teeth. True story!

Yeah I know that they are liable for up to 6 months but they have basically said that they are unable to fix it and are relying on me to use the warranty I was given with car at another garage to get issues resolved.

I have been on the phone to the finance company and they have asked that I book it into my local landrover specialist to get problems diagnosed and see if the warranty will cover the repairs and if it turns out not to be covered then they will ask garage I bought it off what they are going to do about it, as in theory the finance company own the vehicle until I pay the term off.

Sorry you are having a ****e time of it. May be worth taking it to your local LR inde and explaining what has happened - they may well be able give you a rapid diagnosis that you can then take to the garage you bought if from -

Well the plan is to take to my local specialist as per finance companies advice however I am not wanting to have to pay for all of this to be done.

I have a 2004 td4 auto with 105k on clock just so you all know.

Still cant believe that guy in garage said its an old motor with high mileage so will never be perfect lol, I told himthat what he said was a load of ****e as I had a 1996 disco v8 that had done many more miles than that and it run sweet as a nut as did my hilux which was also a lot older.

It sounds to me as freelander hasnt been prepared or checked properly b4 it was sold to me.
