not rock sliders, sump guards and the rest......;)

i am after keeping my td5 for atleast the next 5 years and as such want it to look good and stay in tip top condition.
the outside etc not a prob, regular attention and wax washing etc.

what do you landites use on the underside for the chasis, wheel arches etc.

off the back of this, diesel redex good or not ?

I recently painted my 90 with hammerite waxoyle underseal and thats has been great, I have since been offroad several times and blasted it clean with the jet washer, muck fell of nicly.

A friend and I recently purchased loads of cans of the underseal for the shutz gun, so we are going to do his TD5, and my 90 again. I think I would have prefered to sprayed it in the first place.

Redarding the spray on stuff, I like the idea that you can just point and shoot, you don't actully have to reach all the difficult areas, not to mention the fact you can blast it into the holes in box section, into outriggers...

To spray it you need a compressor and the gun, I don't think you can get one that doesn't use a gun and the aresol ones are not worth it...

Redex, yea got the 300tdi through an MOT a few years back when it failed on emissons, not had the problem since. You can put some automatic transmission fluid into the fuel filter so it gets a big dose of it on start up, that cleans things out nicely, watch you don't use to much as its red, so you don't want it dyeing your fuel.

I recently waxoiled my TD5.

With the hot weather, I left the 2.5 ltr pump cans (Black) in the boot for the day and used the spray lance. It made the stuff so hot, it sprayed out lovely without thining it and I even managed to strap a hose to the end of the lance and flooded the box sections. Dead easy but messy job.

Just give it a good jet washing (steam cleaning if you can) undeneath a couple of days before and get a big sheet of plastic to site it on before starting.

After the billing off road course, the difference where the waxoil was amazing, most of the mud had just run off and just needed a general jet washing.

a day and a half later and the underside is as good as the upper.

a £10 2.5L can of hammerite/ waxoyl mix, from halfords did the trick.

lessons learnt
1) get someone else to do it.
2) if possible borrow the services of a pit or full lift ramps.
3) wear a hat, i didn't and now i have had to shave all my hair off.
4) if possible spray it, it has to be easier than the brush method.

good fun though, with the soars on my knees, back, hips and elbows from crawling underneath to prove it.

oh! and a bald head. :D

no photos to show as i cant bend down anymore

Yeah, by the end you think, maybe I should have bought a Shutz gun and compressor!

Also the pit/lifts would make the job a lot easier, spraying my friends Disco TD5 in a few weeks and going round to a friend who has a lift to do it, I will cry when I see how easy it COULD have been!
