Tried searching but didnt come up with anything.

After selling my mud tyres recently im in the market for a more AT style tread but i want something that will last a few 000 miles so have narrowed it down to a few manufacturers. BFG, General & Cooper.

While searching around for a good deal I keep coming across the grabber TR and was wondering if anyone had tried these and what were they like for road use & laning. I dont really bother with p&p and with the boggy lanes drying up I dont see the need for a open tread style.

I know they are standard fit to defenders but they seem to be pretty common on fleabay which makes me think they could be pretty poor away from the tarmac.

Anyone got them / used them? if so what did you think?

i used them and thought they were great on tarmac and in the snow, didnt really do any laning in them but they coped crossing muddy fields when i went fishing, last forever aswell

Same as johnlad pretty much.

They were on mine when I bought her.. standard size (235/85/16) Fine on the blackstuff, not noisy at all IMO and coped okay with the snow. Didn't do anything more serious than that with them though.

Must admit, though, I swapped them over for BFG AT's in readiness for laning etc.

I don't think that they're any longer put on new Defenders but I may be wrong.

They're fitted on mine. Seem great on road. Only had motor 2 days so no laning yet, but will try them out in the next week or so and report back.

Quieter than the General Grabber ATs on my old Disco, not convinced they'll be much good in the mud though.

We have General Grabber TR on both our Defenders and they are fine on road, snow and for greenlaning. we have a set of BFG MTs for pay and play but never bother to fit them.

Land Rover Experience have TR tyres fitted to most of their Defenders. Back when the Eastnor land Rover Show still ran, Mrs Blip recovered 30 Discoverys, sone heavily modified, using a LRE 110 on TR road tyres.

Cheers

Last winter I had a 90 and I had new General Grabber TR fitted...these have been standard factory fit by LR in the past. I was very impressed with them faultless in snow, dry and wet good enough. They even got around the 'mud run' at one of the shows when I was laughed at by a marshal who clipped me up for a recovery muttering... 'road tyres... fookin no chance'.
I would have them again without hesitation as a very good all rounder as they will cope with anything other than extreem stuff.
Dont let the sedate tread patern fool you..... excellent value as well.

Here they are in action......

cheers for the replies guys, didnt get the TR's in the end as folk were asking the same price as grabbers or selling as nearly new with about 6mm of tread

Have ordered a set of Kumho road venture so will see how they hold up but from having a bit search they get decent reviews :)
