Gearbox!

I really need a new gearbox... LT77 5 spd for a defender.

Mine is cooked, ran out of oil and is now munched. Fairly urgent - anyone got one?

I dont think he deserves a new one. I think he should be made to rebuild his own

I might be able to help, i found most of the bits to make one alongside the A30 on me travels today

the LR is stuck in cornwall, i have a wee van... an trewy, i dnt know how it happened, it just died on me!

Oddie, ill b most interested to see if you can make a complete one outta the bits you found and the two i've got? You up for it?

I have a spare one sitting in my garage that i bought of mhm but never used. Belived to be a good unit but not fitted it myself so cant be sure only thing i noticed wrong with it is the output shaft is half worn.

Only prob is im about a 6 Hour drive from you unless you wanna try meeting half way or something?

For an extra couple of quid i will drive 130 miles and meet at bristol if wanted

i put money on the input shaft bearings being fooked

My gearbox blewup (lack of oil) siezed solid spun me around like a spinning wheel. Luckily I was on a slip road off the M11 near Stanstead when I let the clutch up after changing down Boom! Got my Dad to tow me back to Luton Beds on my 8m Rope. Funny thing was I managed a higher top speed being towed behind his disco! Bloody scary when being dragged through loads of country roads on tow with only XCL tyres for grip in the ****ing rain. Sideeways!

hmm worn output shaft... have found one for £100, am going to investigate next week.

And ian, i rekon the input bearings are fooked, along with the output bearings, and 4th gears bearings - seeing as theres no drive in 4th any more, and the slightest movement, in gear or not, makes horrible rattly noises, and clutch up engine on in neutral does too. Hmm...

yup sounds like mine when it went, not the nicesest of sounds.
