Ok Guys got a lightweight fitted with a 200tdi and series gearbox no overdrive at 50mph its screaming its nuts off so what can i do will an overdrive help drop the rev`s that much or will a lt77 gearbox be better & will it fit . or what about tl77 box but with the series transfer box ???

I went with a hi ratio transfer box also and found it very good - happily cruise at 55 - 60 and still hold a conversation.
It's now left me feeling that the stock landrover ratios are actually very low for road use. People ask me if it has left first too high or caused clutch wear but that's not my experience at all - even with the hi ratio box, first gear seems pretty low. Probably not the best option if you're likely to want to do heavy towing that would need standard landrover ratios for pulling away, but fine for regular road usage - and low ratio is not affected, shift the red lever and you have the same low ratios as before.

I've looked into the 5 speed conversion for my truck with a Tdi, but whichever way you do it it gets expensive and complicated fairly quickly. I've got big tyres and rangie diffs, which I have found adequate, although the gearing overall is a bit high really.

You could go the whole hog and fit a stubby lt77, but i think theres a line you have to draw somewhere, otherwise why do you have a series and not a defender in the first place?
