Hi, all.

Goody, goody - yet another duff gearbox on my T-reg Disco II. My V8 has had 3 already (T-reg, done 60k miles), the first replaced before she even left the factory, the replacement replaced by a main dealer under warranty and now she jumps out of first gear all the time. I reckon the selector's gone but my pocket doesn't fancy the idea of a new box - does anyone know of a good gearbox rebuilder in Lincolnshire?

Supplementary question - she needs an MOT but I imagine that a dodgy gearbox would mean a fail, especially as it wouldn't stay in gear for the brake testing. Am I right in my supposition?

Thanks for any help.

why would you want it in gear fer a brake test??

if your sure it just the selector whip it out and have a look. it might be surprisingly easy to fix and save you the hundreds that a rebuild would cost.

Sorry - I was using "shorthand"! What I meant was that it wouldn't stay in gear when they tried to drive it between the ramp and the rolling road and that I don't know if that in itself would constitute grounds for failing her..

Gearbox does not matter for mot test, if the testing station uses Roller Brake Testing it will not show up or make any difference, when testing with decelerometer there is no engine braking required just foot on clutch pedal to disengage drive and other foot on brake pedal to obtain reading.
