Were there any other gearbox types other than the type D that were fitted to the P38 diesels between, say, 1994 and 2001?

Mine looks like a R380 type D but in RAVE it has type A, B and C int he overhaul manaul. I assume these were for the Defender and Disco?

its just a p38 r380 they have subtle differences age wise ,they differ from disco defender but share many parts like main case and gears etc

Think Type A, B, C, D refer to the gear change turret and clutch parts. The box is the same just the gear stick and clutches connections that differ.

Thanks Wammers. Yes, the RAVE manual shows different turrets and clutches int he Gearbo overhaul part. Some have a different extension housing too. Looks like they were fitted to Defenders or Discos though.

The main part of RAVE for the Range Rover only seems to have pictures of the type D so assume that was the standard for the P38.

Just preparing a backup plan for mine.

R380 was fitted to a few some have manual transfer box change. Different clutch release arms Etc. Rangie has electric transfer box select. The gearbox repair part is generic for all vehicles, just the ancillary bits fitted to it are different for other vehicles.
