Hi

Does any body know if it's possible to do most gearbox repairs in situ?

I need to do the input and output bearings and sort the gear selection out at least.

I know the engine, floorpans and seatbox will need to come out but any other tips?

Thanks, Mike

Once engine, seat box and floor pans are out, removing gearbox will be a breeze, but leave engine in and just remove box and tranny and as James said he can guide through rebuild

Hi guys, its been a while but i have finally got the gearbox out. What should be my first step in the rebuild (after cleaning all of the crap off it)?
Will i need any special tools (i have a bearing puller set and access to a press)?
Thanks

1st step get a haynes manual or greenbook
then break it down into the separate bits, main gearbox, transfer box, front output housing
lots of bags, notes, photos, apart from special tool 0001 in the foreground some big circip pliers are useful
note bearing numbers and seal numbers and make sure you get quality replacements

probably easiest to work on one bit at a time

you will need all new seals and probably gaskets

good luck
