So a few weeks back i couldnt get into 4th gear so checked and adjusted the spring bias thing on the top of the gearbox and left it and next day it was fine.

(200tdi LT77)

Today while driving sudennly all gear changes became difficult and It ground gears in every change unless I slowed right down or DD clutched to change it.

I can get into gear stationary with engine running, revving hard etc with clutch depressed, but not when actually moving.

What could cause this? Someone has suggested low gearbox oil level? Could this be the case.

Clutch is heavy duty and has 5k on it and was done in Oct last year. Have checked and its certainly not clutch as I can get in gear with engine running but clutch depressed but stationary. Bite point is in normal place about 45% of travel.

Well Im going to change it and see if that helps either way as its been in for 30k and that seems like too long from what I understand.
Damn as its mid lambing season and no chance of a gearbox rebuild any time soon as Im wiped out till summer!"

Seems strange it started suddenly, certainly change the oil [ measure what comes out and check for bits ] Also check clutch master fluid level, bulging in the flex pipe and if fluid is clean.

he said it changed gears when stationary with engine running at revs, that would say to me clutch was clearing
If he can get into gear by doubledeclutching, this does sound like baulk rings doesn't it? Sounds like he has accidentally made it into a crash box. Can't hurt to check oil level and for leaks tho, would it? Also when taking the oil out, if he finds bits in there....?

good advice ,but yes if clutch doesnt clear gear stick would jam ,the grating shows baulk rings arent braking the gears

Right so an update;

Changed the ATF and flushed it out completely the ATF was clean and still nearly red coloured some filings on the plug but not many, perhaps 1/4 a teaspoon and no particles or bits of any size.

Its full of ATF dextronIII

It has improved a little.

I can pull away and move up gears from 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 ok, but when above 20mpg Its nightmarish to move from 3rd to second and I have to wait for engine speed to drop as well as vehicle speed before changing back.
Double clutching does seem to work.

Clutch plumbing etc is all 100%

Am I right hin thinking their is pretty much nothing other than the rings going all together that could of caused this?

And if so can anyone point me in the direction of how to do a swap - I can get a gearbox easy enough but swapping it without an engine crain or hoist is my issue.
