I managed to completely ferque cup my LT77 gearbox, which was then removed by a garage.
They sent it off through an Indy to Ashcrofts (who I recommended at the start!), and I am sitting here thirteen hundered quid lighter, (including refitting it,) with a totally rebuilt box that doesn't like to engage reverse, first or third, and it's noisy!!
Without getting underneath and taking the number off the box, I can't really contact Ashrofts to see if they have actually done the rebuild!
Anyone any ideas??

If its any consolation, I had a fully rebuilt LT77 many years ago that I could barely drive off from the main dealer - unbelievably stiff, almost two handed selection! - they assured me it would loosen up within 200 miles.....and against all the odds they were quite correct. It carried on sweetly for many years after that. I do hope yours is 'bedding in' - but does sound like you need some serious reassurance for that money and current symptoms. Good luck, A

Hi James, The Rev, 1st & 3rd are like having to 'crash the box' as in pre-synchro days, They are stiff and almost need both hands to engage ... I still double the clutch as I have for the past 40+ years, the noise is a whine in 5th, which I would have expected from an old, Series box, and I also forgot to say that there appears to be an inordinate amount of backlash on deceleration, when it feels as though it 'brakes and surges'!
I have never had any of this on boxes that I've rebuilt in the past... but I only did them for 4-speed Series.

Go back to the garage and tell them what the problems are.
It is up to them to sort out the problem.
You have to give them a chance to repair it at their cost.

I feel that I have agood clutch which is biting at about half pedal, and I'm waiting for a call back from Ashcrofts.
I'll keep you informed.

Had a call from David at Ashcrofts, who has advised that the lubricant should be Dextron 3 ATF, that the clutch be re-bled, and that the 3-4 bias spring position should be checked relative to the operation of the shift, and that the shim adjusting the reverse travel be checked.
It seems that I will have to take her back again to be put right!!

Have you checked the gearbox and transfer box oil levels, it wont be the first time a gearbox has been refitted and the not filled with oil or to correct level.
