gearbox problem

hi not long had my discovery 300tdi,i bought it with a known gearbox fault.i have to hold it in reverse untill the clutch starts to bite otherwise it jumps out.been told it is most prob the box and could last for years.is it true

most common fault with reverse gear is worn dog teeth ,new gear is ftc5070,id ensure it has clean oil
