Hi everyone,
question on a P38 Rangie.

40000 miles, 1999, autobox holds gears for too long...
No it's not me, something is definetly wrong. It's like it is stuck in
sport mode. The local Landrover dealer can find nothing wrong
electronically. Any ideas of tests we can do? Is it a common problem?

Thank you.
Alastair

......not got one, but holding gears for too long can be a result of a low
ATF level. They did *check* the level didn't they?

Could be a sticking governor and worth a flush and refill. Had the same
problem with my ZF and flushed the box and replaced with Redline synthetic
and this cured the problem.

May I suggest adding a bottle of LUCAS OIL STOPS SLIP ?

you can find it from here 07811 417510 (ask for Phil Egley)

I used a similar additive (Liquid Muscle) about two years ago on my
Discovery 200Tdi which was converted to autobox but was left idle for two
years next to the sea and had absorbed humidity in its ATF and then used
until it cooked its oil.

Amazingly changing the ATF with fresh one, cleaning the ATF filter and then
changing the ATF once more and adding the Liquid Muscle resulted in problem
free autobox which would have otherwise required removal and repair.

Liquid Muscle can be found here

sorry but I do not have their phone number or e-mail anymore (managed to
lose it at the most recent computer crash)

Take care
